POS hardware lifecycle management is the end-to-end process of managing point-of-sale equipment from procurement through to retirement. For enterprises, this typically covers hardware sourcing, configuration and staging, multi-site deployment, ongoing maintenance and repair, and eventually secure decommissioning and asset disposal.

Where it gets complicated is at scale. Once you’re dealing with dozens or hundreds of locations, things don’t stay uniform for long…different hardware models, different store layouts, refresh cycles that don’t line up. It adds up quickly.
